GOSH IT IS COMPLICATED. This is the kind of thing I should essay for but haha I have to write enough essays for school so fuck that. ♥

He is kind of loving the opportunity to see a younger, more idealistic professor because Anole is the only one at the mansion that has read all the files they keep on record, so it's neat to see it in action. He also kind of wants to tell the Professor what happens when you take kids and do to them what the X-Men did but you're not HIS professor so he doesn't even know if you'll do that and he's never really angry enough about it (except when he and Julian get on the topic) to do so. He hopes you'll work it out even if it never comes up because it's certainly on at least his and Julian's mind often enough and probably Cessily's too.

Charles thinks that Victor is really nifty and likes him quite a bit, but Victor does definitely unsettle him. For a kid to have gotten so cynical is... frustrating and a little scary. The most similar thing Charles has ever experienced was after WWII, when men were coming back from war and there was victory and celebration but there were also things under the surface that made a telepath whose powers had just gone through a growth spurt, so to speak, very happy that he lived in relative isolation. Only this time, he's one of the adults and the kids are kids and there's not even any sort of headway being made. The future is apparently terrible. And it's honestly rather overwhelming for Charles as someone who is just getting started. But he does have both time and his own personality on his side -- Charles hasn't gotten worn down into frustration by years and years of all this, and he's just sort of digging his heels in and holding more tightly to his dream in reaction to it.

...I'm sorry that answering a relationship meme about Victor involves mostly talking about Charles. Charles likes Victor. But Charles is also very self-centered/goal-oriented.

And we'll see how things play out, but Charles is feeling some combination of bemused and unsure over how all of the kids apparently think that he and Erik are boyfriends. EMOTIONS. THINGS. When in doubt, try distancing and compartmentalizing. :|||||

Victor doesn't think they are dating! He just thinks they want to be dating.

And when he thinks about it at all, which admittedly is rare enough, he has a combination between "oh god what" and "oh god hot" (which makes him cycle back to "oh god what") MUCH LIKE MY GIF RESPONSE ABOVE.

Is Charles at least getting some ideas on what not to do?

He is, in a general sense! It's kind of like that ASW remix about being able to turn all of the bad feelings into kittens and not knowing how to feed them all. There has clearly been some structural/planning failure along the way that left them unable to handle the circumstances that were thrown at them and, as a result, has allowed for a lot of people -- including so many children -- to get hurt. So now it's like Charles not only knows that the hurricane is coming, but he's very concretely seen the aftermath of not being properly prepared.

And... it's hard. He's kind of at sea, because he has a dream and incredible dedication and a lot of intelligence... but he can't do it all, he has a lot of weaknesses and inadequacies. So, logical follow-up to that is that you get other people to help you, but even that has obviously ended up not working out. All of this is swirling around in Charles's thoughts, resulting in a growing... attention to his people, I suppose. In addition to everything else, they clearly need to learn to be better managers. And just make better life decisions.

At the very root of it, he's trying to figure out where it got lost. It was not very long ago in Charles's life, and the lives of those who were close to him, that the greatest and most wonderful thing was the discovery that you are not alone. To now find those whose most prominent experience is being abandoned is just... mind-boggling and heart-breaking.

So, as a modern, post-Stonewall teen with a level head on his shoulders, what advice would Victor give to a guy from early 1960s America who apparently has a huge gay crush on a supervillain?

He probably would stay away from the gay issue unless that was brought up by Charles, but he's also point out that Magneto...sometimes is...less of a supervillain? (Every time you die he joins the X-Men to carry on your dream!) And that maybe Camp would be a good chance to work out whatever's going on between you? Before anything extreme like "The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants" happens. Mostly he would just...be there and tell Charles it's okay every once in a while.

Just like he did for Xavier's great-great-great-great-etc uncle.

What is Xavier's reaction to there being bunches of different mutants in bunches of different universes?

Charles finds the whole multi-verse thing to be mind-boggling and amazing. Given how the fact that there were even other mutants in his own world was something that was only recently confirmed for him, all of the weirdness that Charles has been exposed to in camp has taken some digesting and he is still wrapping his mind around things like the philosophical implications and physical practicalities of multiple timelines, etc.. On the one hand, it's great that there are mutants in other realities, that they're not just some kind of one-off aberration! On the other hand, it's kind of depressing how many of those realities absolutely suck.

He's glad that he's been able to get to know them, though. It really feels like a huge learning opportunity. Also just a demonstration of the wide range of possibility out there. And having met even a version of himself has emphasized that sense of agency. With great power comes great responsibility etc., etc., and it can be a little intimidating to know how horribly wrong and far-reaching the choices that one makes can be. But Charles is nothing if not confident. This is just makes him a little more... sober about it. Older. Adds to the sense of duty. It's all contributing to settling him down, in a sense.
